Women Moving Forward: Navigating Change
Keynote Speaker: Nancy Archer-Martin
Nancy Archer-Martin will draw upon the principles of Appreciative Inquiry to suggest ways to find and develop our positive capabilities in both our professional and personal lives. You will learn how to build your short- and longer-term professional expertise and develop an intentional road map, integrating personal and professional goals, whether you are in a career mobility phase of your life or not.
Nancy Archer-Martin has prepared a new Career/Life mapping exercise specifically for the 2008 WWHEL conference. Materials will be forwarded to participants upon registration to give them the opportunity to do the exercise before the meeting. Note: This exercise is relevant not only for those seeking to make a career move, but for those wishing to be more effective in their current positions as well. The Thursday afternoon workshop will focus on strategies to execute one’s career/life mapping plan and will include small-group and networking activities.
The Friday morning session will focus on new strategies for mentoring, identifying, supporting, and recruiting talent in higher education. This includes new search strategies and mentoring of potential leaders currently on campus as well as tips on bios, cover letters, CVs, interviews, and managing consultants. This session will be useful for both those who are mentors and those who would like to be mentored. Following the morning workshop, there will be a panel featuring higher education leaders who will discuss their own career paths.
The conference begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23 (registration opens at 9:00 a.m. in the Rotunda) and ends after lunch on Friday, October 24. Conference activities will take place in the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center (Building 3 on the campus map) at Alverno College, 3400 South 43rd Street, Milwaukee, WI 54234. Click here for driving directions to Alverno College.
At Alverno College, you may park at no charge in the ramp off 43rd Street (Parking area A on the campus map). No parking permit is required. If you park at the Comfort Inn, there is a $10/day parking charge. You may leave your car in the Alverno ramp overnight and take the shuttle back to the hotel on Thursday night if you wish; the shuttle will return to Alverno on Friday morning. Shuttle space for each trip is limited for each trip, so several trips may be needed to transport all passengers.
WWHEL INSTITUTIONAL REPRESENTATIVES
WWHEL representatives from each campus are invited to a pre-conference session from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday, October 23, 2008.
The conference room block at the Comfort Inn & Suites Downtown Lakeshore, 916 East State Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202 at the conference rate of $72 per night has expired, but rooms may still be available at the regular price of $109.95 per night. (To avoid paying additional room tax, identify yourself at the time of registration as an employee of a nonprofit institution and bring a copy of your tax-exempt form when you check in). Parking is available in the hotel lot for $10 per day. Note: In addition to making your hotel reservation, you must also register for the WWHEL conference itself by following the directions below. CONFERENCE REGISTRATION AND FEE
To register for the WWHEL conference, click on "REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT" at the top of the page. Fill out all required fields and choose your banquet meal option, along with your lunch preference on Friday. You will receive a confirmation by return e-mail. The registration fee is $150 per person. No partial registration fee is available. Following registration, you may pay immediately online by credit card, debit card, or p-card. After you fill out the registration form and click "save," you will reach Step 2 in the process. If you are paying online, proceed to the end of the text message and click on the "Pay now" button. It is not necessary to have a PayPal account; just fill in all required fields and enter the numbers of your credit card, debit card, or p-card using the secure PayPal system and click "Review order and continue." To complete your order, click "Pay $150 now." You will receive a receipt via e-mail that can be used as proof of payment for reimbursement purposes. Important: If the name on the card you are using is not the same as the name of the registrant, on the "Review your payment" page, please click on "attendee" to send us a note indicating to whose registration the payment should be applied. Online payment is preferred. However, if you must pay by check, print out your registration confirmation (sent to you via e-mail after you register) and send it immediately with your check made out to WAICU to WAICU, 122 W. Washington Ave., Suite 700, Madison, WI 53703, with "WWHEL State Conference" on the memo line. WAICU's FEIN is 39-1039417. We must receive your check by October 9, 2008 in order to guarantee your registration. If your institution will be paying for your registration, please submit your registration form without waiting for the business office to process the payment. Purchase orders may be faxed to Andrea Ness at 608-256-7065 (specify “WWHEL Conference” and the name of the registrant). The registration fee covers all programs and materials, the Thursday lunch and banquet, lunch and breakfast on Friday, and breaks.
To register for the WWHEL 2008 State Conference on October 23-24, 2008, click on "REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT" at the top of this page. Fill out all required fields, indicate your menu choice for the Thursday night banquet and Friday lunch, and click "Save" at the bottom of the form. You will receive an immediate confirmation via e-mail. Cancellation policy: Refunds ($25 administrative fee deducted) will be granted if requested in writing no later than October 9, 2008. Cancellations received after October 9 will not receive a refund; however, you may send someone else to take your place with no penalty. We would appreciate it if you would contact Andrea Ness to let us know if you will be sending a substitute.
Registration for the conference entitles you to lunch and the evening banquet on Thursday, October 23, and breakfast and lunch on Friday, October 24. The banquet on Thursday evening offers a choice of seafood, chicken, or a vegetarian option (make your selection when you register online). A large buffet will provide vegetarian and other options at breakfast on Friday, and the boxed lunch on Friday will offer a vegetarian option (make your selection when you register online).
